NEWPORT, RI - The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum is pleased to announce that the legendary B.B. King, the King of the Blues, will perform a special concert for the benefit of the Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 11 at 8 p.m. at the Newport Yachting Center in Newport, R.I. Tickets for the show will go on sale on Friday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. A pre-sale for members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum will begin on Tuesday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m., and details on how to become a Member are available by clicking here. Tickets are priced at $50, $65 and $100. Topping off the fundraising event, one of B.B. King's legendary “Lucille” guitars to be auctioned during the concert.

All proceeds of the concert and the guitar auction will benefit of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum to support the mission of preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines, and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. The concert will be a highlight of the organization’s premier week of the year, as it will be held on the final day of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour event, and Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. Annually, these events draw tennis fans from around the world to view exciting professional tennis, to honor the newest individuals to receive the highest honor in tennis and to visit the Hall of Fame’s remarkable and historic grounds and comprehensive Museum in Newport, R.I.

“We are most grateful for B.B. King’s generosity in supporting the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum. A summer evening concert in Newport on the final night of the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships and Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is a great way to extend the festivities beyond the courts for a great cause,” said Christopher E. Clouser, chairman of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum. “There is no finer person and accomplished musician in the world than the King of the Blues, B.B. King. We are grateful to him, to his great band and his fine staff for their generous support and contributions. It will be a very special evening in Newport, 60 days before B.B.’s 85th birthday.”

B.B. King: Live in Newport, for the benefit of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum will be hosted at the Newport Yachting Center, a waterfront tented concert venue, which is located in the heart of charming downtown Newport, right off America's Cup Avenue. All seats are under a tent and are within 100 feet of the stage, offering an intimate setting for this very special performance.

Tickets start at $50, and a Preferred ticket is available for $65. A Premier ticket, which offers seating within the first seven rows, is available for $100. Tickets can be purchased online through www.newportwaterfrontevents.com. Online sales offer the benefit of “at home” ticket printing. Tickets are also available by calling the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600.

Since Riley B. King, affectionately known as B.B. King, started recording in the late 1940's, he has released more than 75 albums, many of them considered blues classics. King’s myriad of accolades in the music industry includes 15 Grammy awards, and induction into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame (1984) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1987). King received the Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 1987.

A cherished figure of American culture, King was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006. He received Kennedy Center Honors in 1995, and is a founding member of the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center. King has received seven honorary doctorates: University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2010 (D. Humane Letters); Brown University in 2007 (D. Music); Mississippi Valley State in 2001 (D. Music); Tougaloo (Mississippi) College (L.H.D.) in 1973; Yale University (D. Music) in 1977; Berklee College of Music (D. Music) in 1982; and Rhodes College of Memphis (D. Fine Arts) in 1990.  In 1992, he received the National Award of Distinction from the University of Mississippi.

King, who will celebrate his 85th birthday in September, continues to tour extensively, averaging more than 250 concerts per year around the world. Classics such as “Caldonia,” "Rock Me Baby,” "How Blue Can You Get," "Payin' The Cost To Be The Boss," "The Thrill Is Gone," "Everyday I Have The Blues," and "Why I Sing The Blues" are concert (and fan) staples.

Over the years, B.B. has developed one of the world's most readily identified guitar styles. B.B.'s technique is complex, featuring delicate filigrees of single string runs punctuated by loud chords, subtle vibratos, and "bent" notes. B.B. has mixed traditional blues, jazz, swing, mainstream pop and jump into a unique sound.  His singing is richly melodic, both vocally and in the "singing" that comes from his guitar.  In B.B's words, "When I sing, I play in my mind; the minute I stop singing orally, I start to sing by playing Lucille".
