Updates of New England Amusement and Theme Parks and Zoos New England has no shortage of amusement and theme parks and zoos. While some favorites have sadly left us for good (Whalom Park, Paragon Park, Pleasure Island), others have come onto the family-fun scene with state-of-the-art larger-than-life attractions and events (Six Flags New England and a much-improved Canobie Lake Park, Southwick's Zoo and Roger Williams Park Zoo). Amusement Park/Zoo Spotlight York's Wild Kingdom Zoo and Fun Park, York Beach, Maine (reopens May 28, 2011)  The surprisingly large York's Wild Kingdom Zoo and Fun Park is one of our favorites in New England as you get the best of both worlds: high quality amusement rides and traditional-to-innovative zoo exhibitions and presentations. The Zoo section not only features popular animal displays like lions, tigers and bears but also more unusual breeds like the two toed sloth, Patagonian Cavy, Capybaras, African Crested Porcupine and Patas Monkey. York's Wild Animal Kingdom also features a "top-flight" aviary with a nice variety of birds. Amusements feature all a well constructed merry-go-round, 90 ft. slide, Ferris wheel, bumper cars and boats, a haunted house, miniature golf, batting cages, boat rides, and arcade games.
