The Timeless Dining Appeal of Budabing's 50s Cafe in Millis, MA

Budabing's 50s Cafe in Millis, MA, looks and acts like one of those classic, bustling 1950s diners or cafes. This incredibly
popular restaurant on Route 109 features an authentic jukebox, bright orange overhead lights, a dining counter with stools, nostalgic wall memorabilia ("I Love Lucy," Texaco, Elvis, Speed Racer), straightforward "What do you want, honey?" service and absolutely huge portions of great comfort food at prices from yesteryear.

Despite its diner origins, Budabing's is not your mobile home-type diner. The dining area is relatively spacious with enough booths to possess the elements of a restaurant, but with a healthy serving of the aforementioned traditional diner elements  to create an atmosphere that you'd expect to see in some standardized Worcester lunch car diner from the 1930s. Budabing's is like the restaurant version of Brian Setzer or some other modern day singer doing his or her best Elvis Presely imitation.
In other words, Budabing's is updated and in tune with the 21st century, but with a heaping serving of doo-wop era delight.

Budabing's, however, could look like the dining equivalent of Mad Magazine's glamor model Alfred E. Neuman, and still bring in the crowds. When great food is served in mammoth portions at unbelievably low prices (most dinners come in at under $10.00), people will come no matter what the aesthetics look like. Budabing's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves textbook-perfect versions of omelets, pancakes, waffles, club sandwiches, burgers, foot-long hot dogs, reubens, meatloaf, BBQ chicken, Italian-style pizza (from a wood burning oven), chicken pot pie and Shepard's pie that all rank amongst our favorites, anywhere. Round out the meal beforehand with an excellent Caesar salad and after with a delicious hot fudge sundae, carrot cake, chocolate cake, or Boston creme pie, and "badabing" you have the near-perfect comfort food meal. Other standouts include the Caesar salad haddock (a special with a heaping portion of tender breaded haddock), the mixed grill Caesar (with steak tips, grilled chicken and shrimp), a fantastic tuna melt on rye, perfectly-formed fries, and a nicely done cup of New England clam chowder.

Budabing's certainly bring back the "Happy Days" of dining, a great incentive in this troubled economy where we're all looking for great value for the money.  We know, however, that even during good economies, Budabing's is also a first-choice dining destination. Diner-style restaurants with lots of great foods and traditional warmth in its atmosphere, service and prices are timeless, after all.
