Chopsticks in Leominster, MA, Brings Joy to Fans of Old-Fashioned Chinese Restaurants

Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant, Leominster, MA

Article and Photo by Eric H.
Chopsticks in Leominster, MA, might serve sushi and call itself a Japanese hibachi restaurant, but for me it will always be a big, old-fashioned, "Americanized" Chinese restaurant.

People who dine at Chopsticks will tell you they always order off the menu, but the reality is that most of us go here for the lunch and dinner buffets. The two buffet stations comprise about a third of the geographical size of Leominster and offer virtually every "Americanized" Chinese food under the sun -- chicken fingers and wings, spare ribs, pork fried rice, sesame chicken, noodles, Peking dumplings and that beloved, traditional Asian favorite, soft serve ice cream from a self-serve machine.  Now that's a twist!

There's more traffic at the buffet stations than at Grand Central Station and with good reason: people love "Americanized" Chinese food in big portions at a reasonable price in large, unpretentious dining rooms.  The service is almost always polite, too, an added bonus in a world where restaurant service seems to be getting more apathetic and lethargic.

So, the next time your geeky friend with the elitist attitude tells you about the virtues of authentic Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, and Anhui cuisines, take him for a ride to Chopsticks in the pleasant working-class community of Leominster.  The reality is that authentic Chinese food and "Americanized" Chinese food can peacefully co-exist in our society.

And if your elitist friend won't admit liking Chopsticks, make sure to remind him of the soft serve ice cream machine at the end of the buffet table. Then, he'll be secretly coming back to Chopsticks for years to come.
