Howard's Drive-In, West Brookfield, MA

121 E. Main St, West Brookfield, MA. Tel. (508) 867-6504

Posted 7/13/07

We came back twice in one day, first for lunch and then for ice cream. Next time, we'll do the same except the first time for lunch and dessert and the second time for dinner and dessert. This seasonal family landmark serves lobster and steak dinners, fried seafood dishes, sandwiches, delicious hard and soft serve ice cream in an outdoor picnic bench setting. The food is surprisingly fresh and ample -- not your standard roadside stuff. Howard's is definitely a place the parents and kids can agree on, unless that family is into organic soy burgers and tofu ice cream. Mini-Review by EH

Romano's Macaroni Grill, Burlington, MA
50 South Ave., Burlington, MA. Tel. (781) 273-5180

Posted 7/7/07

Romano's Macaroni Grill is a great chain restaurant proves that some of the elitist restaurant critics can be a bunch of phonies. We know one critic who refuses to the Macaroni Grill because it's a family-oriented chain, which goes to show some of these writing hacks are "pasta" their prime. On frequent visits, the pasta, calzones bread and desserts we've tried surpasses the quality of many independently-run restaurants that are the darlings of the critics. If you secretly put Macaroni Grill food into a certain much-heralded local Italian restaurant, these critics would be hailing the food as "brilliantly prepared."We say, just go and enjoy the excellent food and forget that it's a chain restaurant.
