The Quiet Side of Patriot Place in Foxboro, Mass.

The Nature Trail and Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog at This Busy Shopping and Entertainment Complex Offers a Surprisingly Scenic Hiking Area

Don't instantly dismiss the idea if someone tells you to "go take a hike" at Patriot Place in Foxboro, Mass
.

Patriot Place, with 1.3 million square feet of shopping and entertainment located at Gillette Stadium (home of the New England Patriots NFL football team), offers a highly
unlikely but unspoiled natural scenario with The Nature Trail and Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog. The 16-acre nature trail features a surprisingly scenic walking trail (with great wood mulch padding), a 32-acre cranberry bog wetland system (the last one in Foxboro) and wooded area, and an impressive section of boardwalk. Wildlife exists, including Great Blue Heron, swans, mallards, wood ducks, Canada geese, deer, foxes, raccoons, and turtles, as well as plant species like white water lilly, pond weeds, wild celery, swamp white oak, red maple, white pine, eastern hemlock, serviceberry, and, of course, cranberry.

It's hard to believe that within the bustling Patriot Place and Route 1 regions that such a pristine, authentic slice of nature exists. In fact, once on the trail, all the familiar suburban noises -- most notably, traffic, and various sounds of machinery -- vanish as if you were in the heart of, say, the New Hampshire woodlands. It's one of the Boston area's most beautiful walks, and yet so close to all the wonderful shops and restaurants at Patriot Place. Now that's a winning combo in our books!
