MAKE YOUR NEW ENGLAND FALL HOTEL RESERVATIONS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE!

Although we are a few months months away from the 2010 New England fall foliage season, now is the time to make reservations for your colorful autumn visit. Booking a room(s) now increases the odds of securing the room you want, at the hotel, inn or bed and breakfast you want, in the town you want to stay! The longer you wait, the fewer options you'll have as we have personally found out -- even a few months before the foliage season. Finding lodging in New Hampshire and Vermont will typically bring you close to the best and plentiful fall foliage colors, but all New England states are really wonderful when it comes to a colorful autumn wonderland.

The following New England hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts and resorts have a stellar traditional reputation with a romantic element -- well-known through the years,  perfect for your New England fall getaways:

Red Lion Inn Stockbridge, MA - Famous 18th Century inn, located in the quaint, quintessential New England town that Norman Rockwell made famous!

Publick House, Sturbridge, MA - Beautiful central Massachusetts historic inn, located at the Sturbridge town common. Also features a well-known traditional New England-style restaurant with wonderful regional fare.

Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods, NH - A virtual castle with stunning Spanish architecture-style, surrounded by amazing views of the White Mountains.

Marriott Wentworth by the Sea, Newcastle, NH - Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this landmark hotel has undergone careful renovation and construction to bring back the original glory, and extend upon, the grand, elegant qualities of the former Wentworth-by-the-Sea hotel at this location.

Providence Biltmore Hotel, Providence, RI - This Historic dowtown hotel is known  as the "Grande Dame" of Providence hotels. Charming, full of amenities, and near all the great points of interest and dining in this truly revitalized city!

Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, VT - Owned by the von Trapps and serving as the inspiration for the famous movie "The Sound of Music," the Trapp Family Lodge is located within a picturesque, mountain setting overlooking the postcard picture-perfect village of Stowe.

Woodstock Inn and Resort, Woodstock, VT
- Located in the center of what some say is one of the prettiest towns in America, the Woodstock Inn and Resort's Georgian-style hotel fits in perfectly with the area's church steeples, town green, local shops and galleries, rolling hillsides, dairy farms, and running rivers.

Romantic Fall Weekend Getaways Spotlight
THE INN AT WOODSTOCK HILL, WOODSTOCK, CT

Inn at Woodstock Hill, Woodstock, CT
The Inn at Woodstock Hill in Woodstock, CT, is our favorite New England rural hotel getaway, to date. Built in 1816, the charm of this Federal/Georgian-style mansion provides the perfect, romantic setting to relax in a quiet, unspoiled scenic section of New England called Connecticut's "Quiet Corner." The rooms are unique and feature furnishings and antiques reflective of the inn's historic presence. Some rooms offer fireplaces, definitely a plus for a romantic getaway! Located in a quintessential New England town with big, old homes, a town common, churches with tall white steeples and nearby antique shops, the Inn at Woodstock Hill also features a wonderful, upscale but friendly restaurant that Connecticut Magazine awarded "Best Hotel Dining" and "Best Brunch."

The Inn at Woodstock Hill ultimately provides a lodging dream-come-true for New England travelers looking for a great country inn. It's especially nice during the fall foliage season, but will do just fine for winter, spring and summer, too!

FALL FOLIAGE FAMILY LODGING RECOMMENDATIONS
We believe the success of a fall foliage family vacation in New England is being near fun travel attractions, staying at a place that has plenty to do, and being within a traditionally fall foliage-dense location. Here are a few tha come to mind, with more tips on the way soon...

Woodward's Resort, Lincoln, New Hampshire
Another famous White Mountains lodging destination, Woodward's has been around seemingly forever (actually since 1956)
. This family-friendly resort features,an indoor pool, tennis, a playground, basketball, horseshoes, badminton, shuffleboard, and nearby golf and skiing options. The location is great for fall family lodging, too, as it is within close proximity to the famous 34-mile Kancamagus Scenic Byway for fantastic fall foliage viewings, as well as Mt. Washington (the highest New England peak at 6,288 ft.), and beloved New Hampshire attractions like Storyland, Santa's Village, and Clark's Trading Post. It seems like everyone in the New England area has either heard of, or has been to Woodward's. It's virtually a household name in the world of family resorts in New England.

Smugglers' Notch Resort, Jeffersonville, Vt.
Known as "America's Family Resort," the all-inclusive Smugglers' Notch in Jeffersonville, Vt. (near Stowe) offers amazing mountain views and extra comfortable lodge-like condos in a fall foliage-rich setting (usually very good around Columbus Day Weekend). Smugglers' Notch certainly doesn't skimp on amenities: you'll have access to an indoor pool, "play areas just for little ones." tennis, miniature golf, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, hiking and walking paths (with guided tours), message, art workshops, nearby golf, and many other childrens' activities. Smugglers' Notch also features the Morse Mountain Grille and Pub for informal dining and the Hearth and Candle restaurant for more upscale cuisine.
