Things to do in Maine, summer 2007 Following is a list of exciting events coming up this summer. For a complete listing, visit the Maine Office of Tourism's Web site at www.visitmaine.com. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Central Maine Egg Festival PITTSFIELD, Maine - When making breakfast for a crowd, it helps to have more than one cook in the kitchen. The Central Maine Egg Festival has gone the route of increasing the size of the kitchen skillet instead of the cooking crew. The hundreds who enjoy the event's popular Early Bird Breakfast are fed eggs, bacon, toast cooked in a 300 pound, 10-foot diameter Teflon-coated frying pan. The giant skillet is one of many unique fixtures about the 35th annual festival which takes place July 23-28 in the central town of Pittsfield. Other activities and events include a children's carnival, fireworks, kids Egglympics, street dance, the Famous Big Parade, a chicken barbeque, craft fair and live music. For more information about the Central Maine Egg Festival, call 207-257-3877or visit www.pittsfield.org. Crown of Maine Balloon Festival PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - The northern Maine city of Presque Isle was the launch site for the first successful transatlantic hot air balloon flight, but when balloon pilots gather there each summer, they don't have distance records in mind. The city's 4th Annual Crown of Maine Balloon Festival will fill the sky with more than a dozen colorful balloons August 24-26. In addition to mass balloon launches at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds, the festival will also have children's rides and games, an amateur photo contest, a Geocaching contest and a demolition derby. Evening balloon moon glows will take place on Friday and Saturday. For more information about the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival, call the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce at 207-764-6561 or visit www.crownofmaineballoonfest.org. More events: |
