Massachusetts/Boston Area Restaurant Guide

Read About Where Local Massachusetts Residents Like To Dine

The Historic Union Oyster House, Boston, MA

The Union Oyster House, in Boston, MA, is a historic and often beloved dining landmark. For many visitors, it's the first dining stop when visiting the great City of Boston. The Union Oyster House is the oldest continuously running restaurant in the United States -- established in 1826 -- and serves, for starters, renowned oyster, clam chowder (amazing!), lobster and other fried, broiled and baked seafood dishes. Check out the Union Oyster House Web Site for more information. (photo, courtesy of MOTT)

Massachusetts has restaurant opportunities to "dine" for. The famous seafood dishes, the townie restaurants and the master chefs cooking up diverse ethnic foods offers the Massachusetts dining patron a virtual lifetime of restaurant discoveries. I should know, having lived in Massachusetts my whole life (46 years) and reaching only the tip of the dining iceberg. Although we are partial to hometown, diner-like restaurants, you will find a great variety of Massachusetts restaurant reviews on this page for every taste.  Unlike some other businesses, we have not been paid to write good reviews, or exchange any positive reviews for advertising. We are "locals" that appreciate a good meal, fair and balanced reporting, and being blessed to reside in this great state.  We only recommend the places that we would eat (click on the links for a full review):

Alamo, Milford, MA  What's a high-quality Mexican-American restaurant doing in a place like this?

Amici's Trattoria, Shrewsbury, MA If you like a cozy atmosphere that turns out great Italian aromas and food, Amici's fit the bill.

Ann's Lakeview Farm, Bellingham, MA  One of our favorite family-style restaurants, turning out amazing turkey dinners and desserts in an informal setting.

Beckett's Pub, Restaurant and Function Room, Walpole, MA Beckett's takes a former dive and turns it into one of the better, more attractive Irish-American restaurant/pubs in suburban Boston.

Brigham's Ice Cream, various locations A local legend that happens to serve pretty good breakfast, lunch and dinner, also!

Cabot's Newton, MA An old-fashioned ice cream parlor with a nice lunch and dinner menu, too.

Christo's, Brockton, MA The famous "Home of the Greek Salad King" with amazing Greek Salads, Greek-American specialties (especially the baked lamb) and pizza!

Chopsticks, Leominster, MA Huge Chinese lunch and dinner buffet with a soft serve ice cream machine (yes, there is a twist flavor option, too).

Cocke'n Kettle, Uxbridge, MA A solid traditional New England restaurant with chicken, steak and seafood specialties.

Colonial Inn, Concord, MA  One of our personal favorites, a landmark traditional New England restaurant with loads of charm and expertly-prepared food. Henry David Thoreau once lived in part of this grand New England building.

Country Kitchen Donuts, Walpole, MA It's nice to see quality local donut businesses hold up against the giants.

Don's Diner, Plainville, MA, is a classic, old-fashioned diner.

Guido's Italian-American Restaurant, Walpole, MA Excellent, reasonably-priced Italian-American food in an informal setting.

Harrows Chicken Pies, Reading, MA Harrows has been in business a long time and with good reason: the incredible chicken pies.

Harry's Restaurant and Dairy Bar, Westboro, MA Old-school, townie-like restaurant with huge, fresh portions, including the famous fried clam plate, meatloaf dinner and desserts.  Great service!

Kelly's Roast Beef, various locations Also famous for fried clams as well as a substabtial lobster roll.

Lake Pearl Luciano's, Wrentham, MA (brunch) -- This lakeside delight offers one of the most extensive and tastiest brunches in the Boston suburbs.

Longfellow's Wayside Inn, Sudbury, MA Big on charm and history, the landmark Longfellow's Wayside Inn is far beyond a tourist trap with wonderful New England fare.

Ma Glockner's , Bellingham, MA One sampling of its "berched" chicken, sweet sticky rolls and sweet potatoes and you'll be coming back many times!

Mackie's, North Attleboro, MA  Excellent townie restaurant with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a separate ice cream parlor.

Memphis Roadhouse, South Attleboro, MA. Looks like a chain restaurant, but is independenly owned with wonderful Memphis  ribs, steak and chicken dishes.

Minas Cafe, Norwood, MA Small storefront in South Norwood offering superb Brazlian food.

Mt. Vernon Restaurant, Somerville, MA Long-time Boston area neighborhood favorite with well-prepared chicken, steak and seafood offerings and an excellent Sunday brunch.

Palm Restaurant, Boston, MA A chain that doesn't act like a chain - huge lobster and steak dinners highlight this popular Boston restaurant.

Pier 18 Seafood and Grille, East Bridgewater, MA   One of the better suburban Boston seafood restaurants that also happens to make a great kale soup.  Very fairly priced.

Prince Restaurant, Saugus, MA From the "Leaning tower of Pizza" outside structure to the family-friendly interior with terrific pizza, Prince is one of our favorites.

The 1761 Old Mill, Westminster, MA This wonderful, traditional New England restaurant also has one of the best settings in Massachusetts with a covered bridge, duck pond, waterfall and charming front porch.

The Restaurant, Woburn, MA  This Greek-American restaurant features fresh, homademade breakfast, lunch and dinner specials. It's a cafeteria-style restaurant with an owner who really seems to care about his customers and community.

The Red Wing, Walpole, MA offers delicious fried clams, lobster rolls, pizza and other great comfort dishes.

Spruce Pond Creamery, Franklin, MA Organic, flatbread pizzas highlight this colorful restaurant/ice cream place with a pond view.

Tavern from Tower Square, Plainville, MA Lake views and a chef who puts tasty twists on familiar dishes.

The Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield, MA -- Our personal favorite Massachusetts restaurant, with the ultimate historical New England setting and traditional fare.

Santarpios, East Boston, MA Short on atmosphere, but legendary for some of the best pizzas in Massachusetts.
