Marion, Mass.
by Eric H.
Geraldo Rivera has roots here, but
we can safely say Marion, Mass., is nowhere near as flamboyant
as the journalistic legend. As one of New England's quiet masterpieces
-- and an underrated one at that -- Marion is near Cape Cod (or
is part of Cape Cod, depending on who you talk with) and has
some of New England's most impressive homes with white picket
fences, a few stores including the great Marion Country Store,
the famous Tabor Academy preparatory school and a laid-back scenic
Cape Cod-style harbor. The antithesis of an outlet/strip mall
vacation town, Marion has steadfastly held onto its Yankee feel,
as seen in its understated approach to everyday life. People
here like to walk, say a "hello," and enjoy the peacefulness
of another era. Those living in Marion know their community is
one of the best ways to live in New England. (photo of downtown
