Downtown Newburyport, MA, combines traditional stores with upscale shops, so you can be pampered with expert skin care and then head to a landmark like Fowle's old-fashioned variety store for a newspaper and soda. Add an extensive network of brick sidewalks, hanging flower baskets, and well-maintained historical residential and commercial buildings buildings, and you have one of New England's most appealing cities. Newburyport, located on the North Shore of Massachusetts, in reality feels like a small, historic seaport town with its leisurely feel and relatively safe streets during the day and at night. The town offers many celebrations, parades and outdoor music events, offers great harbor views, has wonderful restaurants (with great seafood) like Michael's (waterfront view), 10 Center Street, The Grog and Starboard Gallery. Stately, big sea captain's homes grace the area perhaps better than any other Massachusetts seaport community. Charming bed and breakfasts and area motels round out this wonderful vacation destination that represents the best of coastal New England.
