Driving by the rural farm land on Burnt Swamp Rd. in Wrentham, MA, past pastoral Adams Farm in Cumberland, RI, will lead you to the beautiful, sparkling Diamond Hill Reservoir in this laid-back area of northern Rhode Island.  Pleasing to look at any time of the year, the large Diamond Hill Reservoir is especially nice in the fall when the leaves turn color with the pristine waters reflecting the seasonal change. Truly an underrated travel section in New England, the five-mile drive from Wrentham to the reservoir, the Diamond Hill Historical District with its old New England homes and local farm stands like the aforementioned Adams Farm, and Phantom Farms, and delicious homemade ice cream at the Ice Cream Machine (see our review at The Best Ice Cream Stands in New England) make for a nice, relaxing, classic scenic New England day trip. If you have seen enough countryside, you're a close drive to the attractive "Main St. USA" tree-lined appeal of North Attleboro, MA, with its small-town shops and restaurants, as well as Providence, RI -- one of New England's great cities, largely reonovated yet preserved with a tremendous mix of the modern and historical, and enough dining options to please every taste.
