New England lodging >>> Wachusett Village Inn, Westminster, MA

Hotel Review

Wachusett Inn, Westminster, MAWachusett Village Inn in Westminster, MA, is perfect any time of the year

by Eric  H.

WESTMINSTER, MA -- We stayed at the Wachusett Village Inn on our wedding night, and figured it would just be a stop along the way to our honeymoon destinations of Stowe, Vt., and Quebec City, Quebec. Little did we know that the Wachusett Village Inn turned out to be the best lodging experience throughout our grand honeymoon.

The attractive 100 acres of wooded grounds, the surprising solitude just off busy Route 2, and incredibly well-maintained rooms made for a wonderful experience. Our room featured a cozy fireplace and New England furniture -- no surprise since the Inn is located near some major manufacturing centers for furniture and craftsmanship. Add to the mix an indoor pool, a restaurant that received the highest rating from Worcester Telegram & Gazette Restaurant Reviewer, Bill Cory, and a choice of 74 well-appointed traditional rooms, suites and cottages and you have a perfect getaway, close to many New England attractions.

The Wachusett Village Inn is a perfect New England fall foliage launching point. It is located right off the popular fall foliage stretch of Route 2, especially from Ayer, Mass., to the Berkshire Mountains (going from north central to northwestern Massachusetts). Frequent spurts of brilliant colors off this older scenic highway make it a must to discover some of the charming villages and towns that have the New England spirit with village greens and churches with tall steeples -- Shirley, Templeton, Princeton, Harvard, Westminster, Shelburne Falls, and North Adams, to name a few.

Gardner, rough around the edges but a community with a lot of spirit, offers many fine regional furniture stores. Mt. Wachusett is right around the corner for the best winter skiing in this region. The beautiful Quabbin Reservoir is about a half hour away and the gentle, scenic Berkshires Mountain region within 90 minutes. Historic Lexington and Concord are within 30 minutes to the east and Boston about an hour away.

The Wachusett Village Inn may have an old, New England look, but it offers the amenities of an upscale hotel and a convenient location. It is a worthy lodging choice when visiting New England.

Wachusett Village Inn, 9 Village Inn Road, Westminster, Mass. Tel. (978) 874-2000.
