Susie's Stories Bookstore is so tiny
that, at first inspection, it would seem a challenge to fit Leo Tolstoy's lengthy "War and Peace"
and James Joyce's neverending "Ulysses" in the 53 sq. ft. retail space.
Somehow, this diminutive, locally-owned and operated bookseller jam
packs an impressive variety of books that can be seen in one glance
with little peripheral vision needed. What started as a children's'
bookstore has grown up the past few years into selling a greater
variety of books for all ages.
I normally don't include local businesses in this Scenes of New England section as it is reserved
for scenic photos of the six-state region. This unique-looking
bookstore, however, caught my eye as much as the nearby
coastal views and famous Motif #1 Red Fish Shack. Susie's Stories also
stands out amongst the long row of wonderful, character-filled shops,
galleries and places to eat at charming Bearskin
Neck. The ram shackled look of the building, enhanced with sea blue
trim, fits perfectly with the coastal personality of Rockport. I
believe that's all worthy of a spot in Scenes of New England!
The moral of the story: You can't always judge a book by its cover. One
step into this delightful shop confirms that.
Susie's Stories is located at 51 Bearskin Neck, Rockport, MA.
