Good Night, Quaboag River in Brookfield, Mass.
America
the Beautiful at Sunset

The folks living in Brookfield,
Mass. love their town and with good reason.
Peace and solitude and unmistakable New England characteristics like
historic homes, a church with tall white steeple and a welcoming town
green create the prototype of what a small town should look like in
this historic region of the United States.
But on the outskirts of town, however, resides something that catches
the eye and remains in our internal photo albums at the center of the
mind perhaps even more -- the meandering, majestic Quaboag River.
The section you see in this photograph is located at White's Landing on
Route 148, just
south of the town center. From the human eye, this scenic river seems
to go on infinitely. The expansive, uncluttered surrounding land frames
the river, thus validating that the big city lives far away (Worcester
is about 45 minutes from Brookfield) and that Mother Nature takes front
and center
stage in this beautiful section of central Massachusetts. The sunsets,
as you can see here, bring an extra dimension of visual delight.
Virtually every step of the way in this region brings retro, rural joy
to the senses where little feeling of rampant commercial, residential
and industrial development loom. The farms and their apple orchards,
rolling hills, Mayberry RFD-like small town appearances (particularly
neighboring West Brookfield) and soothing bodies of water like
the Quaboag River lend sustenance to the mind and Mother Nature's
original wellness protocols (fresh air, scenic views, clean waters and
big trees) to our souls.
It all feels so right in this wonderful version of "America the
Beautiful." Good night, Quaboag River, and hope to see you again soon.
