For
Linda Lagana, going back to the drawing board resulted in a great
career move.
Lagana, owner of the Graffiti Paintbar in Nashua NH, owned a local print shop for and worked as a graphic designer and freelance photographer for many years before opening her art school/wine bar. The business has attracted hundreds of local individuals and groups, the latter that includes high profile corporations.
Taking advantage of the popular nationwide paintbar trend, Lagana has gone beyond the business norm of this hot genre by employing several talented artists to encourage a one-on-one relationship with the customer -- no matter what their level of artistic talent.
"We do take a more personalized approach," said Lagana. "Unlike some other paint bars, we actually have an art staff. Other businesses might focus on the partying and drinking. That's not to say we don't have fun here -- we sure do. But we have people here that feel good about what they have created. They ultimately want to bring their art back home."
After opening on Valentine's Day in 2014, Lagana quickly witnessed a high number of repeat customers. From kids to great grandmothers, customers repeatedly came back in -- in addition to a steady base of first-timers -- from not only the Nashua area, but from several towns in northern Massachusetts. While some center on the party atmosphere, the majority have focused on learning art technique and tricks that often have the beginner in awe that a blank canvas could become a completed masterpiece.
"We listen, and hear the frustration -- and then find solutions for each individual need," said Lagana. "It was a big risk taking this approach because when you look at other paint bars, it can be more simplistic and juvenile."
This dedication to the art side of a "sip and paint" business has often resulted in the 50 seats being sold out on the weekends. Each art session has a different sense of community, says Lagana, but the camaraderie is always special. And the bar and food area certainly adds additional business texture to the Graffiti Paintbar with an appetizing mix that includes wine, beer, hard cider, non alcoholic drinks, snacks and baked goods.
"They are loving it," said Lagana, of the customer's overall experience. "We have some raving fans of this place and hopefully the word will spread around even more."
