That Unmistakable New Hampshire Feeling in Harrisville

Relaxing in Harrisvillem New HampshireA stroll around Harrisville.

Give me peace and quiet, a scenic pond, church with tall white steeple, rows of historic homes, mountain views and a quaint general store and my New Hampshire heart starts beating again, most healthfully and joyfully.

Harrisville provides all of those scenes, as well as that internal regenerative bliss without the need to drive hours and hours towards the northern part of the state. This tiny town with big New Hampshire appeals sits about an hour and a half from Boston, Mass. within the Monadnock region of the Granite State.

While the town possesses that dream-like small town appeal, Harrisville does not exactly fit the pristine mold that we have come to know and love in New Hampshire.
The town center is actually built around an early 19th century industrial former textile mill complex that has been remarkable preserved and, fortunately, occupied by many small businesses, manufacturers, artists, writers and even the local Post Office, according to the Harrisville.org web site.

Harrisville does certainly not come across as a vacation destination in the sense of hyped-up Madison Avenue, marketing department concoctions with air-brushed people displaying forced smiles. Rather, Harrisville represents the hidden, humble and quieter side of New England travel.

Harrisville General Store, Harrisville, NH
The Harrisville General Store, at 29 Church St., dates back to 1838. It is a wonderful place for homemade breakfasts, lunches and snacks, as well as a delightful stop for general merchandise.

Go take a stroll there, breathe in the fresh New Hampshire hilltown air, experience the down-home ambiance of a general store and feel your heart and soul connect with the epicenter of a charming, authentic small New Hampshire town!
