Finding the best golf
resort vacations in New England
New England has more hotels with
golf courses than you would expect. From the New England ocean
to the New England mountains, there are hotel golf vacation packages
for every preference. Many of these hotels feature myriad other
amenities like spas, pools, fine restaurants, and in some cases,
picture- perfect New England locations (like the Ocean
Edge Resort and Golf Club in Brewster, MA). Some like the
Sheraton
Colonial Hotel and Golf Club in Wakefield, MA, offer convenience
with a resort-like setting within a half hour to Boston. This
attractive landmark resort off Route 128, north of Boston, has
been around, seemingly, forever, and is a household name to golf
enthusiasts in the Boston area. If you're about to be married
and are both golf enthusiasts, the Sheraton Colonial is a beautiful
place to have a wedding reception...and then play lots of golf.
The food is great here, too. I have been to a few business receptions
and the dinners I've had are far beyond the standard function
room food quality.
So, whether it's the Berkshires,
Cape Cod, the Boston area or the beautiful mountain settings
of New Hampshire and Vermont, the chance to play golf from virtually
your hotel room makes for a "hole in one" caliber vacation.
As one of our golf colleagues says, "This is a growing type
of business. I couldn't imagine a better vacation than staying
at a hotel that has a golf course. It's awesome!" EH,

KILLINGTON'S 6,168-YARD GOLF
RESORT OFFERS CHALLENGE, PICTURESQUE MOUNTAIN TERRAIN
06/19/2007
Killington Region features
fifteen courses and 270 holes of golf within an hours drive
KILLINGTON, Vt. Regardless
of skill level or handicap, the breathtaking panoramas, gentle
mountain breezes and all 18 holes of the Killington Golf Resort
combine to offer a refreshing round for any golfer. The championship
course is open through peak foliage season during October.
Renowned golf course architect
Geoffrey Cornish developed Killington's 18 holes to test players
of all abilities. The mountainous terrain of the par-72 course
challenges even the most polished of players, while allowing
novices to enjoy a unique course in a beautiful alpine setting.
Indeed, the cool summer breezes at 2,000-foot altitude produce
optimal playing temperatures and ensure a spectacular round that
demands a return.
Killington's 6,168-yard course
features generous greens, tree-lined fairways and the Roaring
Brook that comes into play on eight holes. Additionally, three
more holes feature water hazards, while challenging bunkers surround
15 of the 18 greens. Three par-5s are showcased on the front
nine, including the 510-yard 2nd hole, the longest on the course.
The golf training facility at
Killington is available to fine tune every aspect of the game,
featuring a 12,000-square-foot practice putting green, 14-station
driving range, pitching and chipping areas and practice sand
bunkers.
In addition, the Killington Region
features 15 courses within an hours drive, offering golfers the
option of playing at a different golf course every day, including
Green Mountain National Golf Course, Proctor-Pittsford Country
Club and the Rutland Country Club. Rating/slope: Blue 70.6/126;
White 69.6/123; Yellow NR/NR; Red 71.2/123.
