Travel to Cambridge, MA --
city description, search for hotel and motel accommodations
by Eric H., lifelong
New Englander
Harvard University and the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, two of the world's greatest learning
centers, lend culture to this city which is separated from Boston
by the Charles River. Eclectic, eccentric and sometimes far to
the left, Cambridge is a great tourist destination in its own
right, with some preferring it to Boston (or combining the two
to make their Boston visit that much better). Harvard Square
is a sight to behold, although it's more generic than its presence
in the haze of the 1960s. The long-haired hippies and eclectic
shops have given way, in recent years, to a more corporate "Starbucks"
mentality, but the liberal aura shall remain, forever. With Harvard
University and some preservation of the 1960s still intact, Harvard
Square is a great place to people watch, take a stroll, catch
a movie at the Harvard Theater, dine at one of the culturally
diverse restaurants, or walk, bike, jog or rollerblade along
the nearby Charles River. Protests still happen, street musicians
play their music, and you're always sure to see a professor in
his plaid jacket and thick glasses smoking a pipe. Cambidge really
has it all, an unerrrated city with a lot of character and characters.
