Quintessential Maine Communities
The Yorks
York, Maine, is living proof
that you don't have to travel far up the Maine coast to get a
true feel of the famed Downeast lifestyle. Lobster
dinners, rocky shoreline, expansive ocean beaches, ice cream
stands, salt water taffy and refreshing salt air await you just
minutes north of the New Hampshire-Maine border. More...
Portland
Many years ago while touring
Portland, Maine, a friend commented, "This is a nice city,
but they have a long way to go, a real long way to go."
Having made tremendous headway
towards revitalization in the 1980s and 1990s, Portland, for
a few blocks, looked like a world-class city -- what people considered
a small San Francisco. Situated on a peninsula jutting out into
beautiful Casco Bay, Portland sits between rugged coastline to
the east, north and south and scenic countryside and vacation-friendly
Sebago Lake to the west. More...

vacation summary
Maine
is just plain fun. Aptly named "Vacationland," Maine's
seacoast is full of lobster dinners, "chowda," rocky
coast and some beautiful stretches of sandy beach and always
chilly water. Inland, there are the postcard-perfect mountain
and lake regions of Sebago, Rangeley as well as myriad small
town charm to call your own on a vacation.
There's no major city in Maine,
and that's a good thing. Portland has a population of just over
60,000. At times, it seems like a city with some tall buildings
and first class museums, but walk the cobblestone and brick streets,
shop the small, locally-owned stores, and you'll feel like your
in a small town. The combination just calls for a vacation, as
some truly spectacular restaurants and hotels are juxtaposed
with "green areas," and a leisurely pace rarely found
in a city. People actually stop to say "hello." --
and there not even looking for a handout!
Our favorite coastal areas include
Acadia National Park for its stunning mountain and ocean scenery;
York for its fun beach scene and family-oriented atmosphere;
and Boothbay Harbor, a classic Down East coastal town if there
ever was one.
Maine is our personal favorite
New England state. There's a special feeling in the air that's
hard to put into words. It almost seems like every step has a
purpose when discovering all that Maine has to offer. It's friendly,
full or personality and personalities, and the southern coastal
towns of York, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, Wells and Old Orchard
Beach offer one fun activity after another -- and plenty of that
great Maine lobster and "chowda!"

Tips on where
to vacation in Maine
Ogunquit ME
Offering perhaps the best stretch of beach in Maine, or New England
for that matter, Ogunquit offers an infinite amount of New England
charm, including walkable, flower-dense cliffs of Marginal Way
overlooking the rocky Atlantic Ocean; Perkins Cove with its impossibly
cozy shopping and art colony nook by the sea; Shore Drive the
perfect oceanside drive; and an eclectic mix of shopping and
culture (the Ogunquit Playhouse), sure to offer all lifestyles
a vacation to remember. Make sure to eat at Barnacle Billy's
when visiting Ogunquit. Barnacle Billy's is one of those landmark
New England traditions and one of the most popular summer vacation
tourist destinations in the northeast. The oversized seafood
shack feel, delicious Maine lobster and wonderful views of Perkins
Cove on the Atlantic Ocean results in one of New England's most
pleasant experiences. Ogunquit
