Turner
Pond in Walpole, Mass. is not some famous vacation destination. Rather,
it is a low-key, 17-acre community pond best known, locally, for its
supervised winter ice skating and cozy lodge -- the latter where locals
gather as neighbors to enjoy some good conversation and picture window
views of the beautiful pond. It's not uncommon to see people
bring in food to share in the lodge during the ice skating season. The
stone fireplace adds ambiance and the television some entertainment for
those wanting to watch a favorite show. All in all, it's a classic
community setting and a great way of bringing people together. Here's
hoping that the lodge returns to that community glory in a post
pandemic world. Nice, though, that the winter ice skating
flourished in the winter of 2021 with its socially distant-friendly
setting!
During off hours -- like sunrise -- Turner Pond can take on a
personality that rivals the best of New England scenery. Depending on
the exact time of the day and weather conditions, Turner Pond becomes a
setting for brilliant sunrises that provide scenic inspiration and as a
fabulous way to instantly refresh and regenerate on a new day.
The moral of the story: It's worth waking up early to see a beautiful
sunrise, which, by the way, are not relegated to vacation areas!
OK, that was pretty cool but where to
now? How about...
