Yankee pot roast is a most comforting comfort food dish across New England but results do vary.

Some restaurants serve this popular meal in large portions, other small. The price can range from great value for the money to outrageously expensive -- the latter all in the name of a few fancy "gourmet" adjectives. Taste runs the gamut from truly homemade to frozen food supermarket quality. Other restaurants totally screw up a perfectly fine traditional meal by getting too fancy and using a weird mix of ingredients that ultimately result in something distant from authentic Yankee pot roast.

Mostly, however, local restaurants do a good-to-excellent job making Yankee pot roast. The Gentleman Farmer Restaurant in Chepachet, R.I. is one of those hall of fame-type places for Yankee pot roast.

Important note: The Gentleman Farmer Restaurant's Yankee pot roast is listed as a special on the menu so be sure to call first at (401 371-2683 before embarking on your visit.

This unassuming, humble, welcoming little roadside diner-like restaurant located in the Rhode Island countryside makes the best Yankee pot roast we've ever tasted. The beef is virtually melt-in-your mouth tender with
a perfect flavor. It's like the presence of a grandmother with an innate knack for making delicious homemade food from her kitchen honed in on The Gentleman Farmer and graced the diner with truly homemade Yankee pot roast. Truth is, however, that this hard-working, genuine family-owned business knows how to make excellent homemade meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner with the Yankee pot roast, in particular, warming up the palate in a most satisfying, satiating way.

What's more, The Gentleman Farmer Restaurant serves up Yankee pot roast in a generous portion at
a more-than-reasonable price. The accompanying sides follow in a classic comfort foods kind of way with vibrantly colored, perfectly-seasoned butternut squash and real mashed potatoes. The yummy gravy just adds to an already fantastic meal.

We can hardly wait to feast again on this amazing meal, as well as other dishes at the Gentleman Farmer Restaurant. How nice it is to have discovered this type of off-the-beaten-path restaurant that happens to make a wonderful Yankee pot roast!

The Gentleman Farmer Restaurant is located at is 617 Putnam Pike (Route 44) in Chepachet, RI.
