The famous Jordan Pond House, at the Park Loop Rd., in Acadia National Park, Maine, draws a big crowd with its
restaurant and gift shop -- both terrific tourist destinations -- but the real jewel is the actual fresh water pond. Jordan Pond is a glacier formed tarn with one of the most beautiful water and hill scenes in all of New England. Walk the three mile trail around the crystal-clear pond, hike the carriage road (good for horse carriage rides, and biking as well) or take a short hike up the "Bubbles" where you can get a commanding view of the pond.  To keep the Pond's natural integrity, not much is allowed here but non-motor boats like canoes and kayaks are permitted with a launch spot at the North Parking Lot.

Of course, it's always nice to end this travel experience with some famous, delicious Jordan Pond popovers, some afternoon tea or maybe a more substantial meal at this full-service restaurant with memorable views!

Jordan Pond is a beautiful place that should definitely be on your Maine travel "A" list!

Scenic Jordan Pond and the Jordan Pond Restaurant are located on the western side of Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island.
