Fox's Lobster House epitomizes Maine seafood dining Article and photo by Eric H. (posted May 29, 2007) Fox's Lobster House, in York, Maine, hits on all four Maine dining cylinders: fresh Maine boiled lobster, seafood, blueberry and homemade ice cream. Within clear view of the famous Nubble Lighthouse and the sea, Fox's has that classic roadside seafood shack look with a lobster sign in front, an ice cream stand to the right side and the smell of seafood mixing pleasantly with the salt sea air. Inside, Fox's is more than a seafood shack with a cozy, stylish but informal dining room with ocean views. On the left side of the restaurant are a gift shop and the "lobster pound" where the lobsters are just a stone's throw away from your dining table. For many, the best menu item is the Fox's Famous Shore dinner with boiled Maine lobster with drawn butter, a delicious clam chowder, fish chowder, or lobster bisque, single portion steamers with clam broth and drawn butter, choice of baked potato or French fries, choice of garden salad or Caesar salad, and dinner rolls and butter. Another great selection is the Lobster Crumb Pie with succulent lobster meat baked in buttered crumb stuffing. Summer cocktails, a beer and wine menu, and a children's menu round out an overall great coastal Maine seaside dining experience. Service is terrific -- attentive, intuitive, good with kids and with many staff returning year after year (a sign of good management). With its wonderful location, lobster, seafood, Maine blueberry pie and ice cream, Fox's is ultimately what you would expect from a Maine seafood restaurant. What makes them so special, however, is that few run this kind of restaurant better. Make sure it is a part of your coastal Maine dining experience.
