Hyannis
is a blast! Overly commercial but yet beautiful in many areas, Hyannis
will please everyone from people who want to go to strip malls during
vacation to the purist who appreciates pristine ocean
beaches.
The Main Street has one store after another, often selling candles,
regional souvenirs, soft serve ice cream, muffins, t-shirts in bad
taste, miniature golf and penny candy. Places like the Roadkill Cafe
and Sam Diego's might have odd names, but will complement anyone's
vacation with plenty of good food at reasonable prices. Down the road a
few miles, the combination of Craigville Beach and Four Seas Ice Cream
has been a true summer delight for generations (with the latter serving
lemon stick and cantalope ice creams!). The Route 28 strip leading to
Yarmouth is one hotel after another -- some with indoor pools if you
can't stand the ocean.
Hyannis
is an American travel icon, of sorts --loud, cheesy, hokey and
congested for the high energy vacationer and quiet enough off the
nearby beaten path to enjoy the pristine-looking, beautiful New England
sea (try scenic Route 6A for a glorious Cape Cod drive).
