Inn on the Blues in York Beach, Maine, refers to its ocean location Family-friendly yet popular with the adult beverage and music crowd, Inn on the Blues frequently changes its somewhat limited menu but always seems to come up with something really good. Through the years, we have enjoyed the full-bodied lobster bisque, a tangy New England clam chowder with bacon bits, fresh-from-the-ocean mussels, ample fried seafood platters, mouthwatering lobster artichoke flatbread pizza, the just-right taste of the lobster mac and cheese, and juicy burgers. The staff is young, but always efficient and pleasant -- even during the most crowded times. The owner, Joe Lipton, although middle-aged, is young in spirit and runs this restaurant with a focus and kind of pleasant intensity that has helped keep this restaurant and bar thriving for many years. The music always sounds good and in addition to the blues, you'll hear funk, jazz, and reggae. They've attracted hugely talented acts like the James Montgomery Band and Chris Fitz. There is also lodging here that we haven't yet tried, but someday we will. The building is a restored 19th century gem, and given its waterfront location and cleanliness, seems like it would be a great place to stay! The feeling at the Inn on the Blues is light and breezy with open windows during the summer, outdoor dining on the front or second floor porch and an upstairs lounge. I Inn on the Blues is a great place for a martini or beer at sunset (not personally a drinker but, hey, I report what I see!) to watch the game on the big screen televisions, to dine or drink at during or after a day at Short Sands Beach. In addition to the beach, it's nice, too, that the Inn on the Blues is so close to many York Beach travel attractions. This town really represents the height of a fun summer in New England; great that the Inn on the Blues is there to meet the dining and entertainment needs here!
