If you are looking for a coastal Connecticut travel destination that has a little bit of something for everyone, Saybrook Point Park in quaint Old Saybrook, Conn., might just be your place.

Located on the Connecticut River leading to the Atlantic Ocean, Saybrook Point Park offers a leisurely scenic coastal travel experience complete with a waterfront walkway for a wonderful walking experience, picnic tables, benches, seasonal miniature golf and a concession stand. On a summer day, few southern New England destinations that are free to visit can compete with the light and breezy, relaxing feel of Saybrook Point.

While many enjoy the day trip splendor, those looking to enjoy Saybrook Point Park for an extended time are in luck, also: the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa (picture to the right) offers luxurious waterfront accommodations that includes a health club with indoor and outdoor pools and spa, the Fresh Salt restaurant with views of the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound, and a marina (the Saybrook Point Marina accommodates vessels from 13-200 ft.).

Saybrook Point Park offers the bare minimum when it comes to a New England vacation destination, and that actually works to the advantage of the New England traveler: you get one walkway, one mini golf place, one concession stand, one marina, one inn and one restaurant. The only apsects of Saybrook Point that go beyond just one choice are the myriad picnic tables and benches, and, of course, the abundant waterfont scenery perspectives from everywhere you look.

Many New England coastal destinations offer so many attractions and accommodations that the over saturation is capable of creating stress, indecision and the traffic that you were trying to escape in the first place.  Not so with Saybrook Point, as many visitors have found that it's a breeze to spot the attractions and accommodations, and enjoy them immensely -- you know, the way relaxed coastal New England travel used to be.
