If you missed the Annual Lighting of the Green and Lights On
Festival held the Friday following the Friday after Thanksgiving at the
Taunton Green Historic District in Taunton, Mass., don't worry: you can
still see the spectacular Christmas scene throughout the holiday
Yes, your visit will be without the Festival's opening night live
entertainment, kid's activities, fireworks, and kickoff of the
lights and displays, but the magical Christmas scene, through the
delightful saturation of lights
and displays resonates brilliantly during December throughout this
beautiful New England town green in the heart of the city.
Since 1914, the Christmas-on-the-green celebration and displays --
initially started to bring shoppers to downtown Taunton -- has brought
in more than 2,000,000 people to take in the amazing light displays and
other Christmas decorations. The Taunton Green Christmas scene is,
arguably, the best small city Christmas lights and display presentation
foot in all of southern New England. No wonder Taunton has been known
for more than 100 years as "The Christmas City!"
