New
England travel article with your friends...
So you think you have a big appetite and can finish any
restaurant meal? Apparently, you haven't been to Carl's Oxford Diner in
Oxford, Massachusetts. Portion control simply doesn't exist at this
friendly, historic hometown diner just minutes from Worcester -- and
they will let you know about it if you "wimp" out on finishing a meal
(more on that shortly).
The steak and cheese sandwich makes the Philly version look some one of
those tiny meals from a French restaurant -- you know, the kind where
you find the steak hidden under three stalks of asparagus. Not here,
and they won't even bother with asparagus...

Do you feel restaurants never serve enough bacon? Carl's is clearly an
exception with this "side." Most likely, you will be bringing home the
bacon...

Most breakfast places we have been to fall "flat" when it comes to
pancakes, but here it is overload city...

And the same goes for the waffles...

Carl's never follows the trendy and pretentious -- it's simply a place
to eat and eat and eat in an informal setting...

They are very clear about what they serve...

And if you don't finish what they serve, Carl's will let you know in no
uncertain terms...

I traveled all over New England to write The Best Diners
in New England ebook, and regard Carl's at the top of the diner
list. It would be one thing if they just served big portions, but the
food is also very tasty -- always worth if for me making the one-hour
trip. Add
quick service with a touch of humor, the classic no-frills dining car,
and an owner's love and respect for classic diners, and Carl's stand
outs from many other diners that just rest on their laurels (or hardys,
if hungrier). What a fun place and one where you never go home hungry!
Carl's Oxford Diner is located at 291 Main St., Oxford, MA. Tel.
508-987-8770.
