Clyde's dining room, Walpole MassachusettsClyde's Grill and Bar in Walpole, Massachusetts, is one of those restaurants that everyone, locally, seems to enjoy. Its recipe to success: a wide of variety of amply-served food made from scratch at reasonable prices, a fun atmosphere, and a family-friendly appeal.

The long-time favorite local restaurant has been in business around 21 years and features a lively southwestern-style atmosphere with some great barbecued foods, southern fried chicken, pork ribs, pulled pork and big steaks. The prime rib is to die for with a flavor and tenderness that you'd normally pay much more for in the city. Clyde's most renowned dish: the "10 gallon burger” that includes a two-and-one-half-pound burger, a pound of fries, a pound of chili and a half pound of veggies.

The food selection, however, goes well beyond the southwestern and roadhouse themes with New England baked scrod, North Atlantic Fish and Chips, mac and cheese and healthy items like “Waist Watchers” menu with balsamic grilled chicken salad, a Greek Salad wrap, turkey burger, chicken and pico, and barbecue chicken flatbread. Large salads and excellent homemade soups help round out the healthier foods selections.

The burgers are phenomenal, steak tips about as good as it gets, and the pizza surprisingly good -- they make their own dough daily. And of course, what would a southwestern style restaurant be without nachos -- absolutely delicious!

For dessert, we love the homemade cookie pie with cookie dough, ice cream and chocolate syrup.

The management, waitstaff, hosts and kitchen employees are friendly and often go out of their way to make Clyde's a fun dning experience for kids of all ages.

Only a few miles from Gillette Stadium -- home of the New England Patriots -- and only 20 miles southwest of Boston, Clyde's is definitely a wonderful choice -- not only for locals -- but travelers looking to dine out on large portions of great food in a welcoming, one-of-a-kind, non generic restaurant atmosphere.
