The Lighthouse Depot in Wells, Maine, Offers a Beacon of Shopping Fun (CLOSED)

The Lighthouse Depot in Wells, Maine, is one of New England's most unusual roadside gift shop travel attractions, with the sole mission of offering thousands of lighthouse gifts.
This is not your basic t-shirt, trinket souvenir store, although you'll find those here, too. With thousands of lighthouse gifts including books, clothing, collectibles, furnishings, lamps, rugs and kitchen accessories, the Lighthouse Depot might initially seem like overkill, but it's more about surprisingly well-made merchandise. We've bought several lighthouse gifts here -- dating back several years -- and each item has withstood the test of time (durability and lack of tackiness) to help add atmosphere to our family room's nautical theme. You can't say that about a $20.00 t-shirt with a rude message that wears out after three washes -- usually the center of attention at other local gift stores.

The atmosphere at the Lighthouse Depot is rather charming, too, with a boatload of giftware packed into two floors within an imperfect, creaky old, white colonial-looking home.

The Lighthouse Depot claims to be the "world's largest" lighthouse gift shop. Whather this is accurate is up for debate, but the bottom line is that it's easy to fall in love with this unique gift shop hook, line and sinker.
