Many consider New England a sweet place to vacation, but it's also a wonderful destination for those in search of their favorite sweets.

Homer Simpson should have vacationed in New England, given the wide variety of places to find donuts, chocolates, gingerbread men, ice cream, penny candy, regular candy, muffins, cakes and just about every thing else sweet under the sun.

Some of our favorite sweet New England destinations, including reviews we have written (just follow the links):

Chutters, Littleton, NH -- Featuring the world's longest candy counter at 11 ft., 11 inches!

The Yum Yum Shop, Wolfeboro, NH -- One of New England's most prolific makers of gingerbread men, making up to 22 a day. Also features a dining room with gingerbread shaped booths!

Country Kitchen, Walpole, MA -- This Mom and Pop donut shop and bakery has been in business over 40 years and makes some of the best jelly donuts you'll ever taste!

Shirley's Fine Chocolates, North Attleborough, MA -- A quaint downtown Victorian-designed, tea room-like dining spot with a great variety of handmade chocolates and gourmet breakfasts and lunches.

The Best New England Ice Cream Stands --  Largely seasonal, we have come up with a list of ice cream stands that deliver a relaxing ambiance and some truly amazing ice cream flavors.

Readers choose the best ice cream places -- Our readers do indeed have a sweet tooth, as evidenced by the long list of their favorite ice cream places in New England!

The Ever So Humble Pie Factory, East Walpole, MA -- Is there a way to make a healthy pie that tastes good? The Ever So Humble Pie Company proves it can be done without trans fats and artificial ingredients!

The Maine Diner Blueberry Pie, Wells, Maine -- It's no surprise that the best blueberry pies come out of Maine, but the Maine Diner comes out on top -- noteworthy given the firece competition.
