New England Hotels>>> Rhumb Line Resort, Kennebunkport, Maine Budget-Friendly Lodging in Kennebunkport, Maine, at the Rhumb Line Resort ![]()
Article and photo by Eric H. Like any other well-to-do vacation spot, however, Kennebunkport does have some budget-friendly travel elements. For lodging, it's hard to beat the value of the Rhumb Line Resort. More of a very nice looking motel with great features than a true resort, the Rhumb Line possesses all the lodging bells and whistles that one would seek in a budgeted vacation -- spacious guest rooms, suites with kitchenettes, air conditioning, cable television, Wireless Internet Access, direct dial phones and small refrigerators in every room. But wait, there's more -- a cozy fireplaced lobby, free continental breakfast in a friendly lower-level dining room, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, a fitness center, a summer poolside outdoor restaurant called the Admiral's Table (with lobster bakes!) and attractively landscaped grounds nestled within a four-acre wooded setting. While not directly on the Maine coast, the Rhumb Line resort is a very short drive to the spectacular Maine coast and its beaches. The appealing, quaint downtown Kennebunkport with its nice mix of shops and restaurants is also just a few's minutes away by car. Fortunately, the in-town Kennebunkport trolley stops in front of the Rhumb Line to bring you to all the downtown attractions. The Rhumb Line is really a terrific family lodging choice, as well as an informal weekend getaway for couples. The prices are well below the expensive norm for this area (we recently stayed off-season for under $100 a night) -- a wonderful incentive to travel to one of Maine's truly classic coastal towns during a tough economy.
