There are many outstanding bakeries in southern New England,
but
the sweetest might just be Sweet Indulgence in Pawtuxet Village, R.I.
Known for its made-from-scratch cupcakes, signature cakes, French
macarons, ice cream and hand-dipped confections like chocolate apples,
Sweet Indulgence comes across as a bakery that you would see showcased
on a television food show and the type of place that wouldn't look out
of place in Paris, France. It's also a great place to stop for a
breakfast or lunch as Sweet Indulgence features waffles, breakfast sandwiches, croissants (including lobster!), homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, paninis, and sandwiches. The leisurely pace, properly-sized servings
(the French favor taste over quantity), the pink decor and white
wrought iron tables, and charming regional wall murals surrounding the
pleasant sit-down dining room and ordering area go a long way in
creating the authentic European look.

There's even a wall mural that includes the Eiffel Tower in
France. Nice touch!
It's the next best thing to eating in France!
Kerri Fusco, who likes to appropriately go by the name, "Kerri
Cupcake,"
clearly possesses an artistry to her work -- especially with cakes and
cupcakes where the balance of tastes has this perfection that you would
be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. It's not just about avoiding mega
doses of Crisco oil and other cheap ingredients, but a clear intuition
of what makes a baked good taste great.

You just can't teach this
stuff; rather, it is deeply embedded in the DNA of a gifted baker like
Kerri who clearly works hard and with a passion for her craft. From a
simple treat to the complexities of making a wedding or birthday cake,
the culinary
sights here are memorable and the chance to taste them even better!

While Pawtuxet
Village looks nothing like Paris, this
charming
neighborhood spanning from Cranston to Warwick has a classic New
England coastal and historic look that further makes the visit to Sweet
Indulgence even that much better. I know we digress here, but after
experiencing Sweet Indulgence, stroll around this great walking town
and enjoy the water, the park, old homes, and the quaint brick sidewalk
streets...
By the bridge, just steps away from Sweet Indulgence.

Conclusion
From the North End of Boston, Massachusetts
to the thriving streets of Providence, R.I., I have been to
many great, upscale bakeries in southern New England but none quite
match up
with Sweet Indulgence in my experiences. Savory tastes and a touch of
Paris create that effect, no doubt!
