![]() Some Really Sweet New England Destinations... Mike's Pastry Shop in the Italian-flavored North End neighborhood of Boston, MA, always brings in the crowds with its Italian-American bakery selections featuring traditional Italian pastries, biscotti, cakes, cookies, pies, torrone, gelati, marzipan and more! Everything is hand-made; you can really taste the difference in the quality of baked goods here. I do recommend the aforementioned torrone, comprised of nutty, brittle crunchy and tough-textured chewy stuff from a variety of nuts, hazelnuts, almonds, candied fruit, lemon rind, honey, egg whites, water and sugar. The Gingerbread Construction Company in Winchester and Wakefield specializes in yummy gingerbread cookies, but we like the muffins that are dominated by the top part (where all the good stuff is), probably about 70 percent of the muffin. Out of the 19 varieties of muffins, we particularly like the "Chocolate Dreme," which is injected with a chocolate cream into a moist chocolate muffin! The famous Lake Champlain Chocolates has a factory in Burlington, VY, where you can take a tour of the facility (and have a free sample!). The same policy holds true at the Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour In Waterbury, VT. Oh yes, one more that fits the bill -- The Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory Tour in Hyannis, MA!
