on Where
to Stay in Connecticut
VisitingNewEngland.com's top
picks for your Connecticut leisure and business travel
Guilford --
Features one of the prettiest downtown town commons in New England
framed by old
Colonial homes and interesting, little shops. About 20 minutes to New
Haven.
Farmington -- Has a
classic New England look, has many homes and building on the
National Register of Historic Places and is home to the famous Ms.
Porter's Pre School. Farmington is is just minutes to
Hartford, making it a great choice when staying in the Capitol region.
Litchfield --
Peaceful and restful, Litchfield seems stuck in another era. Located
in the scenic Northwest Hills of Connecticut, this special area has
some nice shops and restaurants downtown, a nice village green, and
many recreational activities including boating and swimming at nearby
Bantham Lake and River, as well as hiking at Topsmead State Park.
The 4,00-acre White Memorial Conservation Area is beautiful
and feature campground facilities, boating opportunities and hiking
trails. Litchfield is also home to the famous White Flower Farm, a
retail wonderland for the professional and amateur
horticulturists.
Mystic --
One of New England's best travel destinations, Mystic is on the coast
and home to the Mystic Aquarium, Old Mistick Village for shopping
within an 1800s setting, Old Mystic Seaport with its outdoor historic
museum, and of, course, the famous Mystic Pizza. The downtown
area is really a delight, with views of the Mystic River, and plenty of
shops and dining. Try the old-fashioned Mystic Drawbridge ice cream
shop while you're here!
Woodstock --
Unspoiled and scenic, this sleepy town in the quiet northeast corner
of Connecticut features regional antique stores, farms, hiking,
swimming and boating opportunities, casual to upscale dining and some
lovely rural country inns like the Inn at Woodstock.
