favorite New England inn: the Inn at Woddtsock Hill

We love the 1816 Inn
at Woodstock Hill in Woodstock, CT, featuring 22 old-world
rooms within one of the most beautiful Federal/Georgian style
mansion you'll ever find. As you drive up the circular entrance
drive, you see the manicured gardens and know that you are in
for a special treat. Upon entering the remarkably renovated inn,
the warmth of classical archways draw you deeper into the heart
of the stately establishment, to the reception desk. Surrounded
by floral wall and window treatments and scattered, but well-placed
thriving plants reminiscent of your grandmother's house, you
are suddenly feeling more relaxed and begin eying the comfortable-looking
seating in the sitting rooms, lined by shelves of old classics
(and also a children's literature section) and newer releases.
The Inn also has a four-star caliber romantic style restaurant,
aligned with the quiet nature of this region, full of elegance
and charm, candlelight, a fireplace and antique furnishings.
Along with some homemade bread, we last sampled here Long Island
duckling with a brandied lingonberry glaze and New York sirloin
steak that served as one of our most memorable meals. For dessert,
the dense and rich fallen chocolate cake was easy to fall in
love with.
The Inn at Woodstock Hill is
easy to fall in love with. It is simply has no peer when it comes
to a classic, Connecticut New England-style inn.
